Welcome to this week’s summary of career and job search updates.
You’ll find articles about LinkedIn, networking when you live in a small town, sample resignation letters and predictions for hot careers in 2020. There’s also news about a new service by Indeed to help recruit faster.
Most importantly, I share an article about the “affordability crisis” in the United States. I hope you’ll digest that information.

WORKFORCE TRENDS
The Great Affordability Crisis Breaking America
by Annie Lowry | The Atlantic
We hear a lot about how great the economy is and how the stock market is booming. But what we don’t hear a lot about is the increase in cost-of-living numbers and why “a surprise furnace-repair bill, parking ticket, court fee, or medical expense remains ruinous for so many American families.”
In major metropolitan areas, housing costs have made living there unaffordable. Home prices are skyrocketing faster than wages are increasing. And even rural areas have been impacted.
Healthcare costs (premiums, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs in general) just keep rising.
Student loan debt and childcare costs also have ballooned.
These are major issues that aren’t being addressed and they won’t go away on their own. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to read and think about the affordability crisis.
