There’s a carnival going on! The Career Development Carnival is over on Elephants at Work. No, it isn’t the kind with rides and games. A blog carnival is defined by Wikipedia as
A blog article that contains links to other articles covering a specific topic. Most blog carnivals are hosted by a rotating list of frequent contributors to the carnival, and serve to both generate new posts by contributors and highlight new bloggers posting matter in that subject area.
What is the Career Development Carnival?
Its purpose is to highlight articles on topics to help your on-going career development. The specific topics include:
- Career Management
- Job Search Resources
- Career Exploration
- Networking Tips
- Personal Branding
- Reputation Management
Lynn Dessert and I rolled this out last year and its been fun for us to get to know new bloggers writing about similar topics.
Why Would You Visit A Blog Carnival?
There are many reasons! But the one that sticks out the most is efficiency. You are busy. The Career Development Carnival serves as one-stop shopping for current articles for anyone interested in career advancement.
But, there is another benefit too. As you click through to the original bloggers site, you may find that the information they provide resonates with you or you may find other posts that answer your questions. When this happens, you’ve discovered another valuable resource to consult. You can subscribe to their free news letter or add their site your feed reader. What is that? Problogger wrote a great explanation. FYI, feed readers are a great way to de-clog your email!
Sharing Is Caring
You may come across a post that would benefit someone you know. Go ahead, share it with them. Or, you may decide to share the link with everyone in your network. (Psst: doing this is a subtle way of letting your network know you are job seeking. Just be careful if you are employed and looking. Tipping your network off like this, could jeopardize your job.)
If you are on Twitter, go ahead, share this tweet to the Career Development Carnival!
