For a lot of unemployed job seekers, Christmas can be stressful and depressing. But let me remind you that Christmas isn’t about gifts.
So you are feeling guilty because you can’t buy the gifts you want this year. Or worse, you are maxing out your credit card to buy gifts, just for the sake of giving something.
Let’s take a step back and really think about the meaning of Christmas. Let’s also evaluate why you feel the need to give gifts. As an unemployed job seeker Christmas should look and feel different this year.
As corny as it sounds, the biggest gift you can give someone is your friendship.
Start A New Tradition
Perhaps this year you can begin a new tradition. One that focuses on giving. Find new ways to show your love.
- Spend time sharing memories.
- Create new memories.
If someone isn’t worthy of your love, then why do they need a gift at all? Perhaps a card would suffice.
A New Perspective
I am hoping that this past year has helped the employed and unemployed put their lives in perspective.
Happiness doesn’t come from having the hottest new gadget or the best kitchen or the sleekest new vehicle.
Happiness and joy are about treasuring family, friends, and relationships.
A roof over your head.
And food in your stomach.
Merry Christmas!
