Unveiling a Super Bowl-Like Secret

I’ve got news to share!

No, I don’t know who or why the lights went out during the “Big Game” last night. (That remains a secret!) I have my own secret that I’ve been keeping since May of last year.

109 Yard Touchdown

touchdownMy secret may not be as big or record-setting as Jacoby Jones touchdown last night.

But for me, it is just as exciting!

Family Tradition

My secret does have something to do with family, but not like the tradition in the Harbaugh family. Jim and John Harbaugh were opposing head coaches during the game last night. Is this an odd coincidence or brothers sharing in their father’s legacy? My secret is dedicated to my dad and his legacy! He was an entrepreneur, consummate networker, and my hero.

Did you know that all the family members names start with the letter “J”? Joe (grandfather) Jack (father), Jackie (mother), Jim (brother), John (brother), Joanie (sister), Jay (Jim’s son) and there may be more.

The Big Reveal

Nor does my secret have anything to do with with a wardrobe malfunction like we saw during the “big game” almost 10 years ago with Janet Jackson and Jason Timberlake. Even Beyonce’s performance during last night’s half-time revealed a bit more than it should have.

Perhaps I’ve been making you wait too long, thanks for staying with me.

My Secret Is A Book

This summer, Miriam and I will launch “Social Networking for Business Success: Turn Your Interests Into Income” which will be published by Learning Express.

It is written for small business owners who want to grow their business. Miriam and I both have experience tapping into social media streams to forge new relationships. Our book will provide actionable steps and strategies to help new and existing business owners leverage online tools to increase their business.

The Backstory

Miriam Salpeter, owner of Keppie Careers, has become a great friend and inspiration. I’ve worked with her on several projects, most recently on our collaborative eBook, “You Need A Job: 5 Steps To Get One!” Last May, she asked if I would work on this book with her. My initial response to her was, “Are you sure?” I also reminded her that I am a not the best writer. It didn’t take a lot of convincing for either of us. We knew that this project was important, not just for our business, but for the thousands of people out there who are looking for actionable solutions to their challenges. You can see Miriam’s announcement here.

I knew I would learn a lot from Miriam (and I did!) She has already authored  “Social Networking for Career Success” and co-authored “100 Conversations for Career Success” with Laura Labovich.

The process was grueling but worth it. However, if I ever say I’m writing another book, slap me with the silly stick.

Expect to See More Content for Small Business Owners

In fact, I started Small Business Saturday already. Each Saturday, I have been sharing tweets with the hashtag #smallbiz and you wll see a post featured on my site to address the needs/questions of small business owners!
