Blogroll Please?

by Hannah Morgan on September 2, 2010

I am looking for ideas today.

What job search websites are a must read for you? In my google reader I subscribe to the sites from the  Career Collective bloggers plus 130 other “must read” sites.  So who do you read?  Where do you get your information from?

This is a bit of a copycat idea, because Ryon Harms (@TheSocialExec) recently took nominations for his 100 Best Damn Executive Career Mavens on Twitter.

Please respond in a comment and tell me why you see value in the site or sites you recommend.  If commenting is to too burdensome, feel free to Tweet your recommendations and be sure to include @careersherpa in your tweets or the hashtag #sherpablogroll.

Quite honestly, I am not interested in the mega sites associated with job boards (careerbuilder, monster, etc).  They still have the lions share of readership. What I am looking for are the recommendations of great writers, solid content, super resources…you know, value!

I look forward to your suggestions!

Hi Hannah,

Great idea crowdsourcing suggestions for your Blogroll! Here are some that I find great value in every time:

Keppie Careers (www.keppiecareers.com): Fantastic advice on topics such as using social media in the job search, networking, and more.

Lindsey Pollak (www.lindseypollak.com): Great insight for Generation Y, how it relates to the job search and extras like book recommendations, etc.

Campus To Career (www.campustocareer.wordpress.com): This is my blog – I had to list it. I provide advice and insight on the job search (interviewing, resumes, personal branding), social media, and recruiting. It’s all about paying it forward first, but I’d be honored to be listed in your Blogroll!

Thanks for your consideration. Keep up the great work!

Kind regards,

Kirk Baumann

Kirk:

Thank you for your response.
Absolutely agree with your nominations!
What I am excited to see is if new wonderful sites are discovered. Though I have seen your site referenced, I have not been a faithful follower so I am thrilled you threw your own site in!

I like Tim’s Strategy http://www.timsstrategy.com and Jibber Jobber http://www.jibberjobber.com

Both sites are written by people who have faced the dark side of layoffs and job search. Tim Tyrell-Smith (Tim’s Strategy) and Jason Alba (Jibber Jobber) write and teach from their hearts to help others navigate the difficult paths of career issues.

They are the real deal….. Not false guru’s spurting out self serving “schtick”. No career list would be complete without these two sites

Disclosure. I have come to know both of them as friends (TTS and I went to college together, but only recently reconnected due to our blogging efforts). But I leave this comment from a place of authenticity…. Not one of pimping my friends!

Great suggestions!

I enjoy Tim’s unique writing style and greatly value Jason’s knowledge. (They are two I regularly read as well!)

Thanks!

Hi Hannah –

A good friend of mine has a great inspirational blog about goal setting and staying on target to reach those goals – good, practical advice. It’s not written specifically for job seekers, but many things apply to the marathon of a job search. Even if she weren’t my friend, I’d read this blog. Enjoy:

Thank you, Dawn for mentioning my blog. My philosophy is that there can never be too many voices yelling ‘YES! you can’. As such, I relish my role as a cheerleader for success.

While my focus isn’t career advice, I do believe the advice for job seekers mirrors the advice for anyone pursuing a goal.

Hi Hannah,

There are so many wonderful blogs to choose from! Some that are on my blogroll (in addition to your blog) are:

http://designresumes.com — Julie posts often and has a wonderful, client-centered POV.
http://jobmob.co.il — I love the humor he injects into his writings, and yet there are always lessons that job seekers can learn.
http://theundercoverrecruiter.com — As a former recruiter, Jorgen Sundberg has a lot of wisdom to share!
http://www.careerhubblog.com — pulls from many great career professionals

I’m sure your list is going to be great!
